FAQ's

What is a Registered Psychotherapist Qualifying?

According to the CRPO website: RP (Qualifying) psychotherapists are registrants of CRPO. They have completed or are nearing completion of their psychotherapy training. They are legally authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy and are required to practise with clinical supervision as they gain experience in the profession.

Are your services covered by insurance?

Insurance coverage will depend on your individual policy. Your policy must include coverage for a "psychotherapist". Please note that a psychotherapist differs from a psychologist, a psychiatrist, or a social worker. Check with your insurance company to see if you are covered for a Registered Psychotherapist.

Do you do direct billing?

I do not do direct billing. I will send you a receipt once the payment is processed, which you will then need to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist, psychologist, psychotherapist, and social worker?

All of these professionals can provide psychotherapy services to clients but vary in their credentials and training.

Psychotherapists: Have their Master's Degrees and can provide psychotherapy support to clients using a variety of treatment modalities.

Social Workers: Also have their Master's Degree and can provide psychotherapy or case management support to clients.

Psychologists: Have their PhD degree. In addition to psychotherapy, they can complete psychological assessments and provide diagnoses.

Psychiatrists: Have their MD degree and are Physicians. They can do everything psychologists can do in addition to prescribing medication.

Are these services covered by OHIP?

Unfortunately, psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP at this time. We will update this section when/if there are any changes in the future.

Do you offer sliding-scale rates?

I do have a select number of spots offering clients sliding scale rates. Please inquire if there are any spots available.

How is your cancellation policy?

I require 48hrs notice to cancel a session. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 48hrs notice, then you will be charged the full session fee.

How is your confidentiality policy?

We do not share client information without their written consent. However, there are limits to confidentiality and circumstances that require we share client information with third parties without a client's consent. Any disclosure that is made as a result of those circumstances will be limited to information that is necessary while protecting personal details of a client's treatment. The limits to client confidentiality are as follows:

  • If your therapist believes you are in immediate and serious risk of harming yourself or another(s).

  • If you disclose that a minor under the age of 18 years, or another vulnerable person, is being abused or is at risk of harm, as Registered Psychotherapists are required by law to report this to authorities, such as your Emergency Contact, Children's Aid and/or the police.

  • If you disclose inappropriate sexual conduct of a medical doctor or other regulated health professional, Registered Psychotherapists must alert the regulating body of that professional.

  • Registered Psychotherapists must surrender client information, in some cases entire case files, if ordered to do so by court order or subpoena.
